If you suffer from a fear or phobia this can be debilitating, skyrocketing anxiety levels and causing excessive worry over things other people are fine with, or so it seems. Things like spiders, snakes, lifts, flying, heights, going to the dentist, any kind of enclosed space, water, leaving the house, clowns or even escalators, the list is endless and can really impact your life.
Most fears are learned behaviours and there are only two we are born with; fear of falling and loud noise. Everything else we have learned from someone else when we were young, or have experienced a terrifying event and so as a consequence learned to be afraid of it for our own survival.
The good news is this doesn't need to be permanent. Any fear can be significantly reduced or removed completely by reprogramming how thoughts and memories are stored in the mind. A memory would need to be expressed in a scary way inside the mind for the feeling of fear to be evoked in the moment, or when thinking of the phobia concerned. In contrast a happy or joyful memory would be expressed in a very different way in order to generate good feelings when remembered.
It's the structure of the fear that's important, not the content, and this is what we can change using NLP. You don't need to talk about the content of the memories, just how they're presented so we can reverse them.
In hypnotherapy it's a little different, where suggestions and metaphor are used to change how the fear or phobia is referenced within the mind. Something is only a fear because those are the feelings we have attached to the thoughts and memories and so by introducing new thoughts and experiences instead, this can change the internal landscape which is referenced when thinking about the fear in future. This reduces the capacity to feel fear as the emotion is simply no longer associated.
I can personally say how both hypnotherapy and NLP have helped me conquer my fears, starting with crippling anxiety and then my spider and dental phobias. None of which is a problem for me now so I know these methods can help you too.
