What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a powerful and effective tool that can help to transform the way we think, feel and behave. It is an altered state of consciousness that allows you to enter a deep state of relaxation where your mind becomes open to new perspectives and suggestions which result in positive changes to your thoughts and behaviours.

It can help with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, weight-loss, smoking, IBS, chronic pain, skin problems, depression, mental blocks, insomnia, fears and phobias and so on.

On a basic level our mind has two parts, the conscious and the unconscious mind. The conscious mind is where all our critical thinking, judgements and new thought processes happen and the unconscious mind handles everything else. On a day to day basis we are using our unconscious mind about 95% of the time so basically this is the part that is in control. This is where all of our memories, beliefs and habits live and its also responsible for our automatic responses like breathing, blinking and keeping our heart beating. It keeps our thoughts and actions consistent for most of the time and these are all based on our past experiences and learnings.

This is why sometimes we'll react in a certain way, to a specific situation and then afterwards wonder why we reacted like how we did, when after thinking about it we might consider that another response would've been best. This is why we often believe changing our behaviour is difficult, because we tend to do things the way we've always done them, it's become our programmed behaviour.

Just thinking you'd like to react differently isn't going to work, because that new thought lives in your conscious mind and your programmed behaviour lives in your unconscious mind, the part that is in charge so that's the part that needs to receive the work. If we could all simply just decide to change a behaviour, no longer have a fear, get over that thing that person said then we could just choose to do it and it'd be done. The problem is the mind doesn't work this way, it's not up to your conscious mind - we know this because no amount of thinking you don't want to be scared of spiders is going to make that fear go away - it's up to your unconscious mind and hypnotherapy is the tool that can get you there.

Hypnotherapy is a non-evasive, relaxing and simple process that really can make lasting change. All you need to do is sit there and let yourself relax as new ideas and thoughts are suggested to you as your critical mind drifts away. These new thoughts and suggestions are discussed beforehand and only these new thoughts and suggestions are able to take effect. Remember your unconscious mind is always in control and will only allow suggestions that have been pre-determined by you.

It's a lot like re-programming those old thoughts that no longer serve you. For example when the software on a mobile phone is outdated, it receives an upgrade so it always works at peak performance. When was the last time you upgraded your thoughts to ones that will better serve you?

Sessions are always tailored to the individual to make sure the suggestions, imagery and metaphors are based on what they consciously want to change and this will be discussed prior to a session taking place, and moving forwards into any further sessions. It's important to remember that the client always remains in control and can come out of hypnosis at any time.

Hypnosis is a natural state that we enter into many times each day. If you've ever become engrossed in a book or film and forgotten how much time has passed, or driven somewhere while thinking about something else entirely or toned out any background chatter until someone has called your name then you've entered into a hypnotic state. If you've ever been to your 'happy place' then that's also a hypnotic state.

It's safe, simple, and really could help you change your life. If you'd like more information or to book an appointment please use the button below to get in touch :)
